She had no machines. No factory. No investors. What she had was her own garden, six children who needed feeding, and the kind of stubbornness that doesn't accept impossible as an answer.
When tea farming collapsed across Nepal around 2000 — prices in freefall, farmers ripping out their own bushes — Mrs. Khatri started processing leaves by hand in her own garden. She withered them in the sun and rolled them one by one. Word reached Kathmandu. Demand outgrew her garden.
By 2013 that single garden had become Kanchanjungha Organic Orthodox Chiya Udhyog Pvt. Ltd. — producing 20 tonnes of award-winning organic tea a year. Still family-run. Still paying every farmer a fair price. Without exception.
